I no longer have a first-choice goalkeeper- Guardiola

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has effectively admitted he no longer has a first-choice goalkeeper after declaring he will choose between Willy Caballero and Claudio Bravo on a game-by-game basis. Bravo was brought in from Barcelona in August to be the senior goalkeeper, but has lost his Premier League place to Caballero in recent weeks after a series of inconsistent displays. Chile international Bravo was brought back in for the FA Cup fifth-round tie at Huddersfield 10 days ago, and is widely expected to be selected for the replay at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

Governor Ayodele Fayose has lashed out at former president; Olusegun Obasanjo

Fayose in a statement released by his chief press secretary, Idowu Adelusi, responded to a statement credited to Obasanjo where he said his generation failed the country. Fayose said Obasanjo was the pioneer of corruption in Nigeria even though he had all the opportunities to turn Nigeria around for good. “There is much suffering in the land. The people are hungry. Yet, one of those responsible for this unsavoury state of affairs relishes in adding insult to the people’s injury. He makes statements that are not only reckless but also untrue. “Obasanjo, truly, has failed this country many times over but not all members of his generation failed this country. There are shinning lights in that generation that have served the nation well. “How about Emeka Anyaoku, Wole Soyinka, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Prof. Ayodele Awojobi? The list is endless and they are to be found in all the nooks and crannies of this country who belong in the same generation as Obasanjo and who have done this countr...

I don’t care being sacked next season eafter winning the Premier League title – Cont

Chelsea Manager, Antonio Conte has said he is ready to “risk” his job for Chelsea to win the Premier League, even if he will suffer the same fate as sacked Leicester City boss, Claudio Ranieri next year. Leicester confirmed Ranieri’s sack in a statement on Thursday, with the club in 17th position in the Premier League, just 298 days after being miraculously crowned champions of England, a feat which earned the Italian FIFA Coach of the Year award. Ranieri’s sack means the last five Premier League title-winning managers have left their jobs before the end of the following season. But the Chelsea gaffer says he is prepared to face the “risk” of being axed next season after bringing the trophy back to Stamford Bridge. He told news conference on Friday, “If you remember very well I was already sacked this season by the bookmakers. “I was lucky to keep the right concentration and continue to work. “I was lucky to keep the right concentration and continue to work. “First of all, I think it...

White House reportedly bars CNN, New York Times, others from press briefing

The White House on Friday barred a few news networks from its press briefing, as President Donald Trump continues to fight against those who allegedly spread “fake news.” Media houses like CNN, the New York Times, Buzzfeed, the Los Angeles Times and Politico were all denied access. The briefing was a “gaggle” — an informal session that’s on the record, but without cameras televising the event. However, NBC, ABC, CBS, and Fox, Breitbart, the Washington Times, and One America News Network were all given access. The Associated Press and Time reportedly boycotted the briefing. Editor-in-chief of BuzzFeed News, Ben Smith in a statement, said: “While we strongly object to the White House’s apparent attempt to punish news outlets whose coverage it does not like, we won’t let these latest antics distract us from continuing to cover this administration fairly and aggressively.” The president of the White House Correspondents Association, Jeff Mason, said they will discuss the development...

The scary truth about commercially produced bread

Last Christmas, I decided to prepare stuffing from scratch to take along with my turkey to our family Christmas dinner. I went ahead to buy four loaves of bread from our neighbourhood supermarket. I used three loaves to prepare my dish, leaving one loaf on my kitchen counter for almost 3 weeks, but to my surprise, the bread didn’t grow any mold. It was as soft as the day I bought it. This got me really concerned as I examined the length and breadth. Immediately I knew the bread was full of preservatives. Preservatives are bad, and I try to avoid them at all cost. When bread is freshly-baked, it is usually very soft and a bit moist, now this moistness serves as a good breeding ground for mold. Although you cannot see these molds, millions of their spores are found in the air around you as they are airborne. These spores settle on the bread when exposed to air and when the bread is stored in your cupboard or on the provision shelf, the spores begin to multiply. Mold on bread reprod...

Leicester City sack Ranieri

Leicester City have confirmed that they have sacked manager Claudio Ranieri just nine months after he steered the club to the Premier League title. Reports emerged earlier on Thursday evening that the Foxes had parted company with the 65-year-old in the wake of their 2-1 defeat to Sevilla in the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday night – a result that was widely regarded as a positive one for the Foxes due to the away goal. The club have now confirmed the reports, with Leicester currently sitting just one point clear of the relegation zone, having failed to win or even score in the Premier League so far this calendar year. Ranieri last season led Leicester to arguably the most remarkable achievement in football history as they overcame 5,000-1 odds to win the Premier League title having been tipped for the drop before the campaign began. “Leicester City Football Club has tonight parted company with its first team manager, Claudio Ranieri. Claudio, appointed Cit...

5 Nigerian musicians who have a side hustle apart from music

Back in the day, there was a worrisome trend among Nigerian artistes. Those who were in the limelight and considered to be rich because they are the ‘rave of the moment’ would become broke just a few years after no longer being in the limelight. The sad trend would be amplified should a life threatening ailment befall such artiste or his standard of living became quite deplorable. Then our internet would be filled with cries for help and claims about how the industry is unfair and does not recognize the contributions of the said artiste to it's growth.

Buhari shuns Jonathan’s $3.5bn national e-ID card

The apparent loss of interest by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration may have put a final nail on the coffin of the $3.5 billion so far spent on the electronic national identity card (National e-ID) project. Sources inform that the Presidency has been unable to resolve a series of crises that have been stalling the continuation of the project initially billed to have attained 70% achievement by 2016. It could be recalled that former president Goodluck Jonathan, with funfair, publicly launched the all-purpose plastic card in September 2014 and assured all that the cards were targeted at reaching the 170 million Nigerian population, in a staggered exercise, which would see 2017 as deadline for all to have it. The card is targeted at solving many identity-related issues, including being used as ATM card, voters’ card and ECOWAS travelling id card, among others.
