Tension, as herdsmen behead another villager in Delta

ABRAKA- THERE is apprehension at Abraka, Ethiope-East Local Government Area, Delta State, following yet another killing and beheading of a welder and native of Urhuoka-Abraka, Mr. Solomon Ejoor, by suspected Fulani herdsmen.


Protesters invade palace
Reports said that angered villagers, who retrieved the decapitated body of the victim, seized the remains from the police and took it to the palace of the Ovie of Oruarivie-Abraka, where it was kept for over four hours. They threatened to lay siege to the Government House, Asaba if the governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, did not break his silence on the Abraka killings.
The protesters, who invaded the palace destroyed cars and air conditioners, accusing the monarch and his council of chiefs of doing enough to stem the tide of attacks by herdsmen. It took the intervention of army personnel to save the palace from being torched.
Hausa/Fulani indigenes flee
Vanguard gathered that the fierce disposition of the villagers forced about 100 Northerners, especially Hausa and Fulani indigenes in Urhuoka-Abraka and surroundings to flee to the Abraka Police Station, Abraka, for safety.
The latest victim, Ejoor, was ambushed and decapitated when he scurried to the farm to rescue her mother, reportedly trapped in the bush by gun-toting herdsmen on Monday.

OSINBAJO: We need to work quickly to correct things

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says the Federal Government is ready to walk its talk on the matter of making Nigeria a destination of choice in the area of conducting business. He reiterated government’s position just few days after the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, PEBEC, adopted a 60-day Action Plan to push Ease of Doing Business reforms in the country. In what may have signaled the administration’s seriousness, Osinbajo paid a surprise visit to Nigeria’s major international airport in Lagos, declaring an urgent task to correct many of the problems already identified by the Council.
